The more you do it, the easier it gets.
So says Service Supervisor Curtis Whitlock, who came to Datamax 18 years ago as a former forklift driver and entry-level technician. Moving to lead technician and eventually supervisor, he has constructed a solid level of equipment expertise through training, experience, and approaching machines again and again with a consistent mindset to diagnose, disassemble, and deliver results.
He’s also built solid relationships. One of those exists at Allied Compliance Services.
The Organization's Need.
Allied Compliance Services is a Hurst-based Drug Testing Agency that depends on its copier to scan or fax test results to potential employers/its clients. When their device is down, their services essentially grind to a halt. On this particular day, the machine was in a hard error state and wouldn’t boot up.
“Doing my normal troubleshooting, I diagnosed the issue and knew the device needed a main controller, a brain if you will,” Curtis said. “When it’s in that state there’s a little LED light that flashes. One flashing sequence means it’s the main controller; another sequence means it’s another component in the machine."
The Team's Approach.
Datamax takes pride in its service delivery “blueprint,” from car stock to strategic parts drop locations. The latter came in handy for Curtis that day.
"The main controller needed to be replaced; we had one at our car stop which was about two miles down the road, so I ran over there, and got her up and running in less than an hour."
He also made an impression on the client; a feat that didn’t happen on one visit; it happened over dozens of visits, in the 10+ years he has serviced the account.
“She’s always been there, and I’ve always had a good client/vendor relationship with her. She’s always courteous and all of our technicians have been able to work on some of the older machines they’ve had there,” Curtis said. “I think that what she’s gotten from us as a service team, she’s always appreciated.”
