Doing Due Diligence: A True Sign of Respect.

Perhaps no one has more respect for the toils of a salesperson than Robert Baker III.  His way of offering his respect to his sales peers’ responsibilities and challenges is by doing his ultimate due diligence to support their success.

His phrase should be trademarked by now. “I’m just here to serve.”

East Texas Datamaxers have heard that said from Robert Baker on countless occasions, with his aww shucks demeanor paired with his intricate knowledge of the industry at large. While it may be said in good fun, it’s acted upon in all seriousness. Throughout each work week, he provides high-level support to reps in East Texas, with help ranging from DIR Pricing to equipment insights to big-time school district proposals. Reps (and really anyone at the office) know Robert’s just a phone call or a cube visit away from the answers.

This former Canon USA Systems Engineer is a shining example for all of us of what it means to do your due diligence for your colleagues consistently. In multiple ways, it’s the ultimate sign of professional respect.

“When I think of respect and Datamax Principle #7, I think about mutual respect, and that’s what I try to live up to,” Robert said. “Being able to provide support for our teams is very gratifying. The most fun part about my job is seeing people grow and become successful – anything that I can do, that’s what I’m here for.”

He’s just here to serve, folks.

We could go on and on, but instead we reached out to a few of his colleagues. Read their reflections on working with Robert below!

Robert is always helpful to do anything asked. He is the expert on most of our equipment.  I had an FTA opportunity for a wide format.  We were trying to get to get the right unit. They had proposals from 4 different companies that were quite varied.

He helped me select the right unit to propose which saved them over what our competitors were offering and they loved the quality of the unit and the price.  He always understands the best option for the customer and is willing to help.  He is our expert on most everything!!

I was stuck on how to explain the answer to a fellow rep on a question while training him on the info I had just learned for a large format training when Robert walked up. He was quick when I gave him the topic and even had a Canon samples booklet so we could show the customer asking the questions to the rep.

Just the pure knowledge he has in this industry is astounding. He is always the first one I go to for our DIR companies.

I don’t really have any specific things, because I just can’t pick one out right this second. He helps me weekly on something. I just know that Robert is always available to help. He is always ready to help.

If for some reason he doesn’t know the answer off the top of his head….which he usually does know it, he gets excited that he has to go do some research. He is just the “go to” for any question you may have. I have no idea what the team would do without him.

Robert gets involved in so many of our deals throughout a period.  Any DIR opportunity, wide format, scanner options.  My favorite thing though is he constantly asks how the team is doing.  He is truly interested in each person’s success and wants to help in any way possible.

I call him my swiss army knife.  He has knowledge in every facet of our business.  When I talk about our team as a whole during interviews, Robert is a selling point to assist in their success. His knowledge of the equipment and software and programming is essential in customer situations and brainstorming off the wall deals in sales bullpen.
