If VP of Operations Greg Kirtman gets frustrated about anything, it’s a dirty vehicle.
Throughout his career, he’s never taken a company vehicle through the car wash. He’s hand waxed them all.
“I kind of get onto the guys here if the vehicle is dirty, or trashed. It’s not acceptable. Take pride in it. Keep it functional. There ought to be some pride in ownership,” he says.
Greg’s point? As a warehouse or delivery employee, our teams are representing themselves and their company to internal and certainly external customers every single day. Their jobs are monumental in our “Creating Raving Fans” mission.
“We’ve got a great crew (in Little Rock),” he says. “When they’re out in front of that customer, they go out and do the job. I can’t recall when we’ve had a customer complaint that a floor was scratched or something was broke. I’m getting compliments all the time for their hard work.”
Greg Kirtman’s 3 Mandates for Warehouse/Delivery Success:
Attention to detail.
"Whether it is pulling supply orders, restocking supplies and parts, or delivering equipment. Personnel must ensure they are fulfilling orders so that the customer receives the correct items. If not, then the customer could be “down” until the correct products arrive. Inventory must be stocked and restocked correctly to minimize time wasted looking for inventory or creating inventory discrepancies. Delivery of equipment must be on time, to the correct locations and with the correct items."
Adaptability to ever changing situations.
"Workloads can fluctuate throughout the day and week. Whether it is a rush of supply orders, inbound freight showing up unexpectedly, to the end of the period rush to get equipment set up and delivered, employees must be able to adapt to a constant day to day change in workloads and situations."
Personality & Pride in what you do.
"All warehouse personnel are constantly interacting with internal and external customers. How they interact not only reflects on the company (and building those Raving Fans) but also on that particular person and that can determine whether other employees enjoy working with them. It’s taking pride in what you do, what you accomplish, taking care of your tools (vehicles, tools, computers, cell phones, etc etc), taking care of the company and your job!"
