Naturally, the How We Roll Award’s origins begin with The Little Blue Book.
It was a Dallas/Fort Worth Quarterly Planning Meeting, and Vice President of Sales Clay Mills wanted to “jazz up” the normal Period Awards for his sales team. All the Sales Managers had their Little Blue Books in hand, when Linda Narcho happened to turn to page 19: “The Datamax Principles: How We Roll.”
“I saw that quote and it just hit me,” Linda said. “We’re talking about culture – that’s how we roll.”
In essence, the How We Roll Award recognizes everything that exemplifies a Datamax employee in Texas. What started as a sales-only award now encompasses every department. Sales team members are invited to nominate any person who goes above and beyond to help them succeed, a person that supports selflessly, and essentially has their teammates’ back.
“I announce the winner at the end of every Period Closeout meeting, and this person is simply someone who embodies the Datamax spirit and all the things we talk about in The Little Blue Book,” Mills said. “It’s about being a team player, a collaborator, someone who gives more than they receive.”
It also gives sales an opportunity to more formally offer recognition to those in other departments who help them succeed.
“We couldn’t do what we do if we didn’t have our support team,” Linda said. “There are daily examples of where someone in admin, or a technician, or anyone in a support role comes to bat for us.”
Need an example of How We Roll? Here’s a perfect one.
I'd like to nominate Daniel Ketchum for the How We Roll Award. Daniel made a second trip out to Weatherford after the delivery to work with the FTA customer's IT Team to smooth out some things. The IT Team was very impressed with Daniel and with Datamax. So impressed that they said they would help get the ball rolling on the FTA customer's second location (which closed this period). This IT Team also reached out to our FTA client and asked that Datamax contact another company that they’ve been doing IT work with for the last decade. When I met with the referral from the IT Team I asked if he would like any references and he told me that the referral from the IT Team was enough for him.
