Kym McGee is out on vacation. The voicemail simply says: “This is Jan, send me some toner please.” While she’s away, her team isn’t sure exactly how to proceed with this.
Kym sure would. She knows who Jan is, what toner she’d be needing, and how to get it there ASAP. This voicemail left a few months ago, represents the tight-knit relationship she develops with her supplies customers. The 17-year Datamax veteran is an absolute expert on the customer experience.
“I think it’s the customers who really make my job so rewarding for me. Just building that relationship,” Kym said. “That’s my primary goal, is taking care of that relationship we have.”
When it comes to supplies expertise, Kym McGee is in high demand. This tenured Little Rock administrator has conquered all kinds of territory in her field to be a trusted resource for her colleagues… and NO DOUBT, her clients.
The Product Expert.
Every so often, Kym will dream about numbers associated with equipment models or toner products, or even how staples are going to fit into a particular machine.
“It happens quite often, honestly. It was when those dreams started that I knew I was truly, deeply invested in what I’m doing here,” Kym said.
That doesn’t happen without studying up. Lexmark is constantly updating their machines, she says, so it’s up to her to get with manufacturer reps to get updated manuals to tell her what she needs to know (accessories to the consumables… all things that will help what supplies should or shouldn’t be used).
After all, she says, it’s not just about fulfilling supplies. It’s about answering any question that a customer might have on any given day.
The Adaptability Expert.
When her manager, Kristen Finkbeiner, approached the team about the onboarding of the massive Baptist Health Account, with that came a new set of manufacturers, consumables, etc. Kym took this shape-shifting news with grace and confidence, and turned her mind to “how can I make this work?”
She Googled. She studied Toshiba manuals. She learned from experience and picked up the information in stride, without complaint.
Her adaptability carries over to the phones every single day, Kristen says.
“She has taken these hospital accounts on, plus gone through two acquisitions, and has kept the pace up the whole time. Our orders only keep growing, and she handles it all with patience," Kristen said. She gets ''beat up' a lot by customers, but she has great skill in talking them down and working out resolutions, but more importantly, getting them to understand. It’s not always fun and easy, and supplies are not a walk in the park."
The Client Experience Expert.
It’s hard to believe that an administrator who’s routinely on a first-name basis with clients (remember Jan?!) considers herself an introvert.
Kym, a dedicated administrative professional, is a true expert in managing supply orders with precision and efficiency. Her knack for streamlining procurement processes, working with vendors, and ensuring timely delivery of materials has made her a key cog in the Datamax wheel.
But her passion lies elsewhere. Her warm demeanor, attention to detail, and genuine concern for every “Jan” that calls in make her a true client experience expert.
“Back in the day when everything was phone calls, you had no choice but to build those relationships with customers. She then made the transition to train and help customers and our sales reps understand FMAudit, now Printanista. She consistently is on the phone day in and day out assisting customers with their questions, helping track down lost packages, working with me and reps to make sure our larger accounts have the backup toner they need, and helping find resolutions in emergency situations," Kristen said.
