The Client: Dominion Bank
The Account Representative: Bryan Bearden
25 years – that’s how long Bryan Bearden has been taking care of the folks at Grapeland State Bank. So when he heard that the bank would soon be acquired by another company, he feared the worst. He’s been down that road before with other organizations.
But persistence – and a long standing tradition of treating a client right – can really pay off. Now, and well into the future.
The Business Challenge
"I thought, we had no chance. It’s done. We’ve lost other customers in the past with acquisitions like this,” Bryan said.
But Bryan never slowed his pursuit. He kept going back, and back again with the VP at Grapeland, whom he’d been working with the past six years. He sent email after email, made call after call. Finally, out of the blue he got an email from the IT director who is handling the fleet, and scheduled a meeting between the two.
The Thought Process
"The plan for Dominion was pretty clear: They are a fast growing organization with plans for more acquisitions in the near future.
“I explained to him that we weren’t a small outfit, that we could handle their business as they grew,” Bryan says. “I explained our great service over the years,”… (there was the time a lightning strike brought all their technology down, but our team had them back and running quickly; another time Bryan upgraded their equipment for the remainder of a lease at a very generous rate)….”I told him, I’ve been with this bank for almost 30 years, and I plan on staying here. You can deal with me, and I’ll give you the best and fairest deal that I can. If you go elsewhere, they may sell you a machine and then not be here.”
The glowing references from the team at Grapeland certainly didn’t hurt. Neither did the fact that Datamax has a technician who lives right there in tiny Grapeland, TX.
"Mike Slocum has been taking care of them just as long as I have, and he's a big reason why we've been able to keep this client for so long," Bryan said.
The Prevailing Results
After visiting, the IT representative ordered two machines for a Dominion location in Dallas. Bryan assured them that, with our presence in Dallas, that would be no problem. This week, Bryan is scheduled to do a complete analysis of the fleet at formerly Grapeland State Bank, with the intention of replacing all the copiers and printers there.
“I firmly believe that they’ve been sold on Datamax moving forward,” Bryan says. “We’ve got new equipment at a Dallas location, things are moving at the Grapeland location. As they expand, they’re looking to Datamax to help maximize what they’re trying to do as an organization.”
