“I’ll be around.”
These are three words that resonate as deep as the pine forests in Lufkin, and effective as any sales pitch that Bryan Bearden has to offer.
Take Dan Manuel, the minister at Crockett Road Church of Christ in Palestine. Bryan’s known the pastor since Bryan was in Junior High as a family friend. He’s also been his copier rep for 25+ years.
When it came time recently, Bryan spoke to the mister about upgrading his machine as his five-year lease was expiring. Manuel was hesitant. After all, he figured this was his favorite machine (a Canon 5535) to date. Bryan’s rebuttal? “I won’t steer you wrong.”
That was enough for the minister to oblige.
Don’t mistake Bryan’s aww-shucks demeanor for a strategic approach, as he navigates Deep East Texas building relationships one minister, CEO, or local business person at a time.
Bryan doesn't overpromise.
“I had a superintendent tell me one time that he liked me because I never over-promised anything I couldn’t deliver on,” Bryan said. “I never want to be the person who has to crawl back to a client and explain why we didn’t deliver.”
This is certainly the case with Crockett Road of Church, where Bryan has shot the minister straight for two decades.
He's always around.
Just being available, responsive, and thoughtful as an account manager goes a long way in earning trust.
“I’ve always planned on being in it for the long haul, and I like to tell people ‘I’ll be around,” Bryan says. "That makes a difference when a customer knows a rep isn’t going to change a year from now; they know they’ve got someone there who’s not just there to sell you something. They’re going to take care of the need, whatever it is.”
His reputation speaks for itself.
After he received his new copier at the church. Manuel had an idea. “He asked me, ‘what’s your boss’s name?’ I said Josh Sims. He said, ‘I’m going to write him a letter and tell him how good you are. Then he asked me what his boss’s name was. He said he was going to write him a letter, too.”
Without further ado, here is the letter.
Maybe the minister knows that in another five years, when that lease is up, too, Bryan will most certainly be around.
