Jerry MacLaren is in the relationship business.
That starts early. Listen to him on the phone with a prospect, and watch the ice break (melt, really) from a cold call to a warm conversation. Observe him in conversations with long-time clients and notice the friendly banter that threads itself between business discussions.
Or, in this case, a current customer who is growing fast, and when it’s time to expand their copier base… they don’t even consider looking elsewhere.
“Long-term vendor relationships? It’s critical. Here in East Texas, we have a lot of small businesses. That personal relationship is very important if you want to garner long-term customer loyalty,” Jerry said.

AshRoq Financial based in Tyler, TX serves as what Jerry calls a boutique tax firm specializing in bookkeeping, tax preparation, notary, and business formation. They’re very hands-on with their clients, very responsive, and aim to add that extra level of service.
Datamax service does the same for its clients. So when the two-year client opened a new venture (Generation Wealth) and began expanding, Jerry used this to his advantage. He KNEW how well they’d been taken care of by our service team, and he didn’t let that go unnoticed.

From the time Jerry took over the account (at the time one single office), he’s made it a point to check-in. Even though this wasn’t necessarily a “major account,” he treated the co-owners like family. Whether it was Christmas cards, phone calls, or unexpected drop-ins, Jerry is always interested in what Datamax can do to streamline operations.
“Their business is much more relationship-based than say a major financial company, and I wanted to honor that with how I approached their needs,” Jerry said. “Regular communication is so important with any account really, from just checking in, following up on installation, or doing something more formal like a Partnership Review.”

When several months ago Jerry learned of the new venture and additional offices, he knew the needs would change – the new venture would be very much the Marketing branch of the company's efforts. Jerry took these needs and in the meetings ahead, he reassessed what would be the right fit for the offices in Shreveport, Jacksonville, Carthage, and Henderson.
“We really reevaluated what the needs were for her office(s),” Jerry said. “We got down to the nitty-gritty of what types of documents, what paper sizes, what are they going to be producing across the board?” Jerry said. “What kind of connectivity do you need? These were all important questions to ask prior to presenting an actual proposal.”
The bottom line is that this rapidly-growing company never even shopped another copier vendor. Datamax is growing alongside AshRoq Financial as a trusted technology partner. And that’s very much a credit to the relationships Jerry creates.
