The Client: Fossil
The Account Representative: Susan Salisbury (Coppell Office)
The Business Challenge
Make no mistake – Fossil is a fashion retail giant. In the United States, its network of Company-owned stores includes 94 retail stores located in retail sites and 129 outlet stores in outlet malls. Internationally, its products are sold to department stores, specialty retail stores and specialty watch and jewelry stores in approximately 150 countries across the world.
But when it comes to its office equipment, its needs and challenges are not unlike any other business in the Metroplex or across Texas.
“When our business relationship started 15 years ago, we were able to set up a copy center with production color in it. The primary application was proofing for their layout and design for their products. However, a competitor had the “walk up” equipment. The executive team at Fossil saw this as more of a commodity, with no sort of special needs.
As of 2010, Fossil purchased another building (at their Richardson headquarters) that was much larger, spread across three different floors. Once that happened, they increased the amount of equipment. Management was trying to get a better grasp of print accountability and tracking, and making sure they didn’t have a lot of waste. They had internal green initiatives as well.
They really wanted avenues to reduce their costs.”
The Thought Process
"After a thorough months-long discovery process, we were able to get some color walkup units in and we had a great service track record with them from previous years. We were able to help them solve some problems in regards to tracking and automation.
On the printers- we kept the population with no reduction- we replaced 59 HP printers with 59 Canon Printers all reporting in with Uniflow Software. On the Copiers- they had 39 MFP Copiers that we reduced down to 26 Canon MFP Printers.
(For the green initiatives) We have toner recover waste areas, where they can go to Canon online for MFP to recycle toner. For printer cartridges, VP of Operations Keith Lenore has a toner fulfillment program where they can print a label and ship them to a printer cartridge facility and they recycle there. With the Uniflow software, we were able to set up many initiatives as well: We have a lot of the rules based routing in Uniflow, like two sided printing, if you print this amount send to specific machines, we have it set up for secure printing, if they don’t need to print it, doesn’t automatically print; if it doesn’t print within 24 hours, they delete the job.”
The Prevailing Results
"We had a good record with the equipment we had there, regularly scheduled reviews, and the bottom line is we really understood their business. When they needed help, we were proactive in our solutions with preventative maintenance on our equipment. We earned the right to be there. We were really able to use the value of our relationship to grow our business with them."
