Datamax Little Blue Book Story - Sheryl Scott

Sheryl Scott's Story

(Controller, Saint Louis Office)  Sheryl Scott’s rise within the Datamax organization has been steady, consistent and immensely satisfying over the past 25+ years. Her professional journey serves as a wonderful example of the organization’s propensity to promote within.

Not all companies, she contends, afford their employees that opportunity. But it’s just one of the many reasons the Datamax Controller has remained a Raving Fan for so long.

Starting as an Administrative Assistant, her career path led her to leasing administrator, then tax/report specialist, staff accountant, accounting manager and, finally, controller.

What led me to Datamax?

“That was a lifetime ago!” Sheryl says. “I was relocating back to the metro (Saint Louis) area after being away for several years. Prior to relocating, I was working as a restaurant manager and was anxious to do something different.”

My experiences at Datamax:

"The corporate office has, for the most part, over the years had very low turnover. It was a little surprising to see how many people had been with the company for so long.

Casual atmosphere. Great people who care about each other and the company, and the opportunity for advancement within the company.
I like what I do and the people I work with. Without those two things, I would not have stayed for 25+ years.

What makes me want to stay at Datamax?

"Number one is definitely the people. From day one (25 years ago), there has always been a family atmosphere where people genuinely care about each other, and about the success of our company.

People listen. By that I mean if someone has an idea, their input is welcomed by those higher up in the organization. It may not always be possible to implement the idea, but everyone’s opinion matters."
