DATAMAX LITTLE BLUE BOOK STORY - ariel delong

Ariel DeLong's Story

(Business Process Consultant - Longview Office) - WAsk Ariel DeLong about her time at Datamax, and professional growth comes quickly to her mind.

In her words, a few benefits of working here: the great friends with coworkers, and the quality people that are hired. Datamax’s customer service focus, and our universal drive to go above and beyond for clients. There’s also a great opportunity for growth and change throughout the company.

Case in point: Ariel’s worked two different roles and at two different locations since she was first lured to Datamax at a job fair, then returned after a brief stint at a copier dealer in Colorado. There’s just something about Datamax that feels comfortable. It makes her feel like her professional growth is openly nurtured and encouraged. No doubt, she’s taken advantage of it.

This Presidents Club-winning rep has reaped the benefits of a personable approach, a desire to learn more, and a willingness to, when necessary, take that leap of faith.

What led me to Datamax?

“I first inquired about Datamax at a Job Fair while I was in college at UNT, as I was looking for an internship. After meeting with Clay (Mills) for a few interviews for the position, that’s when he told me that instead of hiring me for a part-time intern role, he wanted to hire me as the full-time Partnership Review Specialist,” Ariel said.

When Ariel left Datamax for Colorado, then decided to come back later on, Clay told her that he believed her ability to succeed in Sales, and that she had a natural talent for it.

“Long story short: I accepted the offer from Datamax because from the very beginning, my potential for success was seen far before I had ever even saw it,” Ariel said.

My experiences at Datamax:

A watershed moment for Ariel’s career was the decision to move into sales. She’d earned degrees in Marketing and Public Relations, so she knew she’d work closely with sales teams. But to take that leap? It took a lot of internal dialogue and inner strength.

“Clay reminded me recently that when he was interviewing me for the Internship Role, part of the deal was I was telling him up and down that I wouldn’t get into sales. His thought was that we needed to at least get her involved with the sales team,” Ariel recalls. “I really couldn’t think of anything, any reason not to, other than I was afraid. Things worth having often take that leap of faith. That’s what it came down to for me.”

Ariel over time has also embraced the reality of just how complex, competitive, and ultimately necessary our industry is to businesses at large.

“Whenever I first started in sales, it was during the COVID year, and we were deemed an essential business which meant that we were necessary for other businesses to function. In my meetings, I’ve come to find that businesses still need to print, manage, and scan their documents and that’s where we step in. We are selling something that people need, and they rely on us to keep their business up and running.”

What makes me want to stay at Datamax?

In a few words, Ariel has discovered a since of growth here that she could never have anticipated upon her hire.

“It has not only developed my self-confidence and knowledge immensely, I have also had a lot more opportunities in my life to do things like travel, see family, go to concerts, and so much more because of the financial growth I’ve achieved through my sales role. I can picture myself growing with Datamax, and know that the company supports and encourages that growth,” Ariel said.
