DATAMAX LITTLE BLUE BOOK STORY - dave duke

Dave Duke's Story

(Senior Account Representative - Little Rock Office) - Let the record state: Dave Duke never dreads coming to work.

It’s a simple assertion on his part, but a poignant one at that. First, to set the stage about what Mr. Duke does: There’s no corporate client too large or complex for this veteran salesman to handle with the utmost care, levied perhaps surprisingly by an aww shucks, man on the street demeanor. Dave has one account that has grown from three locations to 41. Another location had less than 100 employees when he took it – now they have more than 1,000.

All the same to him, really. Regardless of the size of the client or the intricacy of the technology solution at work, Dave Duke is sincere about his passion for nurturing customer relationships. He’s sophisticated in his strategic approach to solving their problems. He cares for his clients. He cares about his coworkers. He genuinely loves what he does at Datamax.

What led me to Datamax?

It was a couple of things that led Dave to Datamax.

One: He had worked for Ocè for 10 years as a sales representative and later as a sales manager, reporting out of both Memphis and Florida. While he loved the product and the manufacturer’s culture and environment, he sensed the need for a career change. Two? His family was in Arkansas, and he yearned to make it back home.

"I was living in Orlando and wanted to get back to Arkansas. After interviewing here, I just felt like this was the place for me. The opportunity to build business relationships and the overall reputation of Datamax made it an easy decision at the time,” Dave said. “It’s been 12 years now and it has been everything I thought it would be.”

My experiences at Datamax:

As a Senior Account Representative, Dave covers a ton of ground in a limited amount of time. He literally crisscrosses the state visiting with clients with multiple locations; all while taking care of the minute details that must go into it. A lot of drive time, a lot of email by phone, a lot of handshakes, and detailed, boardroom conversations, in signature Dave Duke style.

He says he appreciates the freedom to do his job as he sees fit, with outstanding support from all departments at Datamax.

“That helps me build close relationships with big customers,” Dave said. “When they need something, they call me, and as they hang up, they’ve got to have confidence that all I need to know is what their pain spot is, and I’ll fix it. As long as they continue to feel that way, I think we’re doing all right.”

What makes me want to stay at Datamax?

Dave says he’s had opportunities come up over the years, but they didn’t measure up to what we have here. It’s about being part of a team that makes him stronger, he shares. You know you have to do your part, so the entire organization can sustain and continue to grow.

That sentiment? That’s a matter of organizational culture.

“Here at Datamax, it’s great people. It’s great culture. And we’ve got the best service organization in the entire country,” Dave said. “That’s what I tell people all the time.”

With that, you can’t help but believe Mr. Duke when he claims to never dread coming to work.
