DATAMAX LITTLE BLUE BOOK STORY - GRANT MURRAY

Grant Murray's Story

(Production Print Specialist - Little Rock Office) - Grant Murray says it all the time: Print isn’t dead. It’s just evolving.

The Production Print Specialist in Little Rock is both a student of the ever-evolving commercial print space (his certifications and ongoing class load speak for themselves), and also a trusted teacher to those looking for ways to help their creative digital creations come to life in printed form.

Grant doesn’t just sell production equipment. He offers expertise, he provides consultation, and he keeps the customers he serves afloat of what’s emerging around the corner.

And those who know him know: With a passion for production print like his, he’s just getting started.

What led me to Datamax?

After graduating from Seminary in 2016, Grant became a Family Pastor, and later a Church Planter at City Church in Sherwood. It was there that he realized creative talents for building content, creating logos and other marketing initiatives that served a church. He developed hands-on, albeit informal training within the Adobe Creative Suite.

“When it was time for a change, I wanted to use some of the skillsets I’d gained. And I wanted to get into sales for a couple of reasons,” Grant says. “I wanted to no longer have restrictions on what I could and couldn’t make. Using sales as a tool, I wanted to find a sales job that could encompass some of those skillsets that I’d built in my previous career.”

At Datamax, he found just that.

My experiences at Datamax:

His positive impressions of the company started with his initial tour of the building. There was remote connectivity holding court, the administrative staff running busily across the floor, service and logistics and dispatch running like a top … all under one roof.

“As I was introduced to the sales team that day and saw the amount of tenure they had, it was quite clear to me that the culture was more than a motto, it was the way they did business,” Grant says. “A lot of turnover is common in most sales organizations. To see that tenure, 20 or 30 years in sales, all with Datamax? That sealed the deal for me.”

Since his start here, Grant has immersed himself in the training necessary to help his customers see screen designs come to life in print. The elements of RGB to CMYK, light and color, all the different moving parts that go into a final print.

Most notably, Grant has earned the coveted Idealliance Color Management Professional license, and been certified as an Idealliance G7 Expert.

“Now, more than ever, I understand the science behind these digital images made into print. What comes with that is user knowledge and understanding. People I work with can see the current capabilities of their equipment, and then they’re able to take it to its limit.”

What makes me want to stay at Datamax?

Grant mentions three things: The opportunity for advancement, the challenge of growing a market segment, and the family atmosphere at Datamax.

“To me, the challenges that come with growing a market segment include, first, proving your worth as a viable partner. It’s building up your credibility, investing in the schooling and training in helping others realize what this equipment is capable of.”

“Secondly, it’s learning what’s out there. A perfect example is the Grand Format Printing systems we’ve added in both the Oce Colorado and the Arizona…. These are solutions that, previously, people had to go out of state, or even out of the country for. Now, people can come to their trusted Datamax dealer and they know they can trust us for that desktop printer, AND that $150,000 production printer.”

And the family atmosphere?

“That’s evidenced in cheering each other on for our successes, and also supporting each other when they’re down. Asking how we can help. No matter what, you feel like you have the support you need.”

Print is evolving, no doubt. But so is Grant Murray, through every certification earned, every challenge conquered, and every digital design fully realized in final print form.
