Datamax Little Blue Book Story - Kenny Prince

Kenny Prince's Story

(Area Sales Manager, Tyler Office)  One could say Kenny Prince has a true calling for business technology.

After starting a career in IT in 1985, Kenny co-founded the company PCnet in Wichita Falls, an IT support company that grew to 20+ employees (most of which are still there today) and served more than 100 school districts in North Texas and Southern Oklahoma.

But in 2005, Kenny felt a different calling. This time, in the ministry.

“It’s kind of hard to describe it. I had been in the ministry in some capacity since the age of 16, and it kind of took me by surprise that it happened when it did. So, with their blessing of course, I packed up the wife and kids and we moved. At 45 years old, I completely changed directions in my life and started the Greater Life Church in Bullard,” Kenny says.

He, of course, eventually found his way back to business technology full time. But you can still catch Pastor Prince at the pulpit, preaching every Sunday at the church he started 14 years ago.

What led me to Datamax?

“I was working for a finance company doing all of their IT, but it was in the process of placing itself on the market. Seeing how I needed to provide for my family, I put my resume on Monster.com,” Kenny says.

Then-East Texas Copy Systems (now Datamax) was looking for someone to develop a Professional Services Group to provide solutions like Document Management and Managed Network Services. ETCS came across Kenny’s resume, and he was soon after hired to lead the Professional Services Group.

“We started with just me. We eventually added a couple of technicians and just grew from there,” Kenny says.

After working nearly 10 years in the IT side of the Datamax business, Kenny currently serves as the Area Sales Manager for the East Texas offices.

My experiences at Datamax:

"It feels like a family owned company should feel like,” Kenny says.

What does he mean by that?

“We know each other. We care about each other. We have a sense of family, there’s an opportunity for promotion within the company… Ownership rubs shoulders with employees. There are so many elements of Datamax that build the employees’ sense of worth. And you see people stay because of it."

What makes me want to stay at Datamax?

"Being a people person, I love getting to intermix with great people, customers, employees, and the community aspect you get with being a part of the Datamax organization. I really believe this company wants to be the best that we can be. Creating Raving Fans is more than just a slogan. It really is apparent in how we conduct ourselves as an organization… I feel like there’s a future here for anyone who wants to work hard, learn, and grow.”
