Scott Banks' Story
(PrintView Specialist - Little Rock Office) — PrintView specialist Scott Banks’ father runs the family-owned Food Center grocery store in Malvern, Ark. It’s been in his family for three generations. A big thing for Scott growing up was his father’s simple lesson: “The customer is always right. You are not the exception to that rule. You are an example of that rule.”
Not only that. He watched his father every day walk down from his office and stock shelves, help check out customers, or carry out groceries for clients. Scott said it was important that those employees knew that their boss was willing to do the exact same things they were doing.
Scott’s upbringing had a big impact on his career here at Datamax. It’s pretty easy to witness such. Just ask his manager.
“Scott is one of those people that when you ask him for help that just can’t say no. He is always there to provide assistance to whoever needs it and does so with a smile,” PrintView Manager Russ Hill said.
What led me to Datamax?
Scott’s journey to Datamax is a little “convoluted,” he says. After college, he headed overseas to teach English in South Korea and then in Thailand. Though he loved the travel, he learned over time that teaching wasn’t his gig. It was time to hit “reset,” so he headed back home to Arkansas.
“I had a friend who was working (at Datamax) at the time, and she knew there was an opening in the meters department. I didn’t have much tech experience, but Russ (Hill) took a chance on me and I’ve always been appreciative of that,” Scott said. “Really, the decision to accept a job at this company came down to how highly my friend spoke of the company.”
My experiences at Datamax:
Scott has reaffirmed in every way possible that that “chance” Russ took on him was well worth it. After Datamax moved from the legacy FM Audit print monitoring software, Scott took it upon himself to be the Printinista champion. He’s captured new capabilities, explored and conquered all types of issues, and continues to lead the charge in being a subject matter expert on the solution. He’s also the one to reach out to manufacturer ECI if there’s an escalated issue.
“Over the past 6 years Scott has taken the initiative to learn as much as he can about Printinista and service contracts so that he can be the one-stop service when customers or sales has a question about meter readings or toner fulfillment,” Russ said.
In short, Scott’s eager to learn new things, always on the lookout for new capabilities, and Datamax affords him the opportunity to do just that.
What makes me want to stay at Datamax?
Generally, when people ask what Scott does for a living, he might avoid too many details. He says he “recognizes the fact that that the department I work in is very niche, and not too interesting to people not involved in our industry.”
But if they ask him about the workplace in general? That’s a whole different story.
“If they ask what the culture is like, I’m a lot more open about that. Everyone is willing to bend over backward to help each other and our customers. I never feel like I’m the only one dealing with an issue. I love that Barry goes around and greets everyone in the morning. I know who he is, who (Arkansas President) David Holzhauer is. That’s camaraderie and teamwork that I really, really appreciate.”
Camaraderie. Teamwork. Service to others. Lessons he learned decades ago at his father's family-owned grocery store.
