Virginia McClellan's Story
(Account Representative, Little Rock Office) Her first impression of Datamax? She found herself surrounded “by true winners.”
It’s been a great ride thus far for Virginia McClellan. Since joining the company, she’s fully invested her time and effort into making Datamax an even bigger winner. She’s committed herself to multiple areas in sales. She’s been a steady voice for instituting positive change where she sees opportunities for improvement. She’s volunteered, served on planning committees.
And now, as Virginia approaches 30 years with Datamax, Virginia is that winner, just as the ones she discovered in 1990. One that younger employees can emulate, can look up to, and can learn from.
What led me to Datamax?
"Quite honestly, I had moved here from California with my six-year-old son. It was a rough time in my life and Datamax’s offer of $1000 per month draw was music to my ears,” Virginia says. “Please keep in mind, this was back in 1990.”
Her first job? Selling fax machines.
“I had never used a fax machine. But I sold the dickens out of those fax machines,” Virginia said.
Initially, it was a challenge to convince people that faxing was viable. But the more she demonstrated the ability to get a document from here to there in minutes, the more her career caught fire.
But she didn’t stop there.
My experiences at Datamax:
Virginia’s role in sales has evolved greatly over her years here.
“I sold fax machines for many years. I’m going to say around 2000, fax sales were waning because new technologies like digital copiers and email were coming into play,” Virginia says.
She was moved to David Holzhauer’s team and besides selling fax machines was given the responsibility of calling on the Federal Government, which was her first experience with “copiers”. For a short while, she was a color specialist as color printing became more prevalent in the workplace. By about 2002 she was given a specific territory(s) and accounts to sell the full line.
Virginia describes herself as a “cork in water” when she arrived at Datamax. But her journey here, by emulating those around her, has been life-changing.
“I hadn’t lived in the same town for any long stretch of time. It was sort of where the river was taking me kind of thing,” she says. “Everybody around me was so goal oriented. They were such winners. The more I was around people like that, I thought that what they’re doing has led to success. I want to be on that train too!"
What makes me want to stay at Datamax?
"Who wouldn’t want to surround themselves with a group of winners? It’s a company with tremendous integrity. There’s an openness to hear about different ideas, and an opportunity to impact change for the better. There’s a tremendous company philosophy. Datamax is a company that invests heavily in people that have potential, love of the company and loyalty. All they are looking for is someone who will invest back and I guess I do that."
It’s been a great ride. And Virginia’s not ready to get off yet.
“I guess I want to see where the next bend in the road takes me. I want to see how high we can go."
