DATAMAX LITTLE BLUE BOOK STORY - WESLEY ANDREWS

Wesley Andrews' Story

(Logistics - Tyler Office) — Imagine a high-performance espresso machine in a bustling café.

It doesn’t shout. It doesn’t demand attention. It’s not the barista or the cashier out front. But behind the counter, it hums with dependable precision… heating, grinding, tamping, brewing…. shot after shot, hour after hour, without skipping a beat.

Wesley Andrews may make his coffee before heading to work each morning, but perhaps you can get the analogy building here. In the warehouse or the cab of the delivery truck, Wesley hums along behind the scenes to ensure that, from equipment order to equipment on the truck for delivery, everything is brewed to perfection.

His manager, Michael Snow, is a “Raving Fan” of Wesley’s dependability.

"Wesley is almost like Jake from State Farm. He's always there," Michael said. "If technicians are needing parts and he's on a hunt for it, he'll put that order in and if it's back ordered and knows that technician is trying to get customer up and running, he'll search the whole warehouse for a machine that he can take that one part out... just so we can keep that customer up and running."

What led me to Datamax?

Whether it was the Texas summer heat or the frequent wasp stings, Wesley had decided it was time to make a career change.

“Before Datamax, I was working for an outdoor advertising company hanging billboards. Being out in that heat and weather for two years, it’ll make you change your mind a little bit about what you want to do… I didn’t think I wanted to do that for the rest of my career.”

He put his resume out online, and Datamax was one of the first to respond.

“They told me about the day-to-day, it sounded very interesting. I’d be working in the parts room and eventually getting out to do some installs. And that’s how it all took off,” Wesley said.

My experiences at Datamax:

Wesley thrived in the parts room, and his superiors took note. From receiving parts, pulling parts for technicians, and supplies for orders, he steadily evolved in his role to receiving equipment, getting items scheduled for the next day, moving new equipment into used, and used into wholesale. It was long before he was also doing deliveries.

Today, Wesley is essentially Warehouse Manager Michael Snow’s “go-to” guy for anything that goes on in or around the warehouse – when Michael’s out, he never doubts that the job will get done.

“I like seeing the job all the way through. From getting things unboxed, to getting it scheduled, and eventually on the truck, it’s like ‘OK, that goal is completed… If we don’t do it, it won’t get done.  Knowing we hold that piece of the pie together for this organization, that really helps. That’s really rewarding,” Wesley said.

What makes me want to stay at Datamax?

"I definitely like the work culture here. It’s very different than any other place I’ve worked at before. I can go to any part of the office and strike up a conversation with anybody, from management all the way down. At a lot of different businesses, you can’t just do that. The fact that we can connect and really get to know one another, and also get the work done, I haven’t been anywhere before where it was like that,” Wesley said.

And make no mistake, no matter how much grinding or tamping it takes, the highly-performing Wesley’s going to get the job done.
