Letter on the Third — August 2020

Dear Datamax Family,

As my good friend and public speaker John O’ Leary likes to say, “What more can I do?” It’s a great question to ask yourself this month.

Now, more than ever, it takes everybody putting maximum effort into their role. The company is depending on you right now, just as you’re depending on the company. Every role, every department is like a piece to a puzzle, reliant on one another to complete our shared mission every day. I refer to Datamax Principle #13: “Every job is important.”

One very important piece to this puzzle is our delivery and warehouse teams. You’ll read much more in this month’s Rave Review about some of their individual stories, their unique experiences, and the crucial, often labor-intensive, tasks they endure every day at Datamax ... especially in August. It’s hot. It’s a bustling month for delivering equipment to the schools we serve. And then you add the ongoing pandemic – the job these people do is to be commended.

I know because I’ve done it myself.

Back in the day, sales people drove “wagons” to haul equipment around with us from prospect to prospect. We’d roll the copier out on a cart (I called them gurneys), wheel it up into offices and do a demonstration. Then we’d load it back into the wagon and head to our next appointment. Just like it is now, it was hot, and often you were sweating so bad, you’d have to calm down before you even walked in to do the demo.

Our delivery teams have to be prepared for anything. They’re loading equipment up stairs, pushing copiers across uneven floors, over carpeting and doing a lot of heavy lifting in between. But there’s no time for suffering. These employees also dictate that first impression new customers have of Datamax. They are happy, they’re polite and they’re taking that extra time to be cautious and to make sure that initial customer experience is a great one.

Again, they’re one piece to the puzzle. These teams depend on admin for times and specific locations for delivery. They depend on sales to provide necessary conditions or instructions. They depend on connectivity and service to follow through once delivery is completed. These are the “house rules” that ensure a win/win with our customers and our company.

Every job is important. Now more than ever before.

So, back to the question John O’ Leary often poses, “what more can I do?” Be safe. Wear your face mask and social distance. Do everything in your power to make sure you’re doing the right things at the office and beyond it. And, respect the house rules.

You need your company, and your company needs you. The Best is Yet to Be.
