Letter on the Third — August 2023
Dear Datamax Family,
When I think of all of our administrative employees at Datamax, and what they do for our organization, I can’t help but visualize pillars. Oxford defines a pillar as a person or thing regarded as reliably providing essential support for something. Pillars stand firm. They offer immense support. They are constantly reliable, even when carrying a heavy load every single day.
In this month’s issue, we are celebrating those efforts. In that spirit, I wanted to share just a few of the characteristics that I see in our billers, our receptionists, our collectors, our supplies personnel, and our admin teams at large.
They’re process-oriented (but also problem-solvers).
In many ways, it’s incumbent upon admin to not only abide by very specific, granular processes but also ensure that the rest of us respect those processes as well. Without their close examination of Partnership Reviews, or unscrambling of paperwork puzzles, just imagine the confusion and disorganization of our systems. By that same token, I’m always proud of the way they don’t get hung up on doing things one way. When there’s a better way to do something, our admin people aren’t afraid to go after that and say “what about this?”
They’re multi-taskers.
You’ve seen the lines in front of their cubicles. They could be making sure a PO is accurate, and a salesperson comes in with a request. And then the phone rings and an urgent email flies in. Administrative people here are masters at prioritizing and making sure the multiple things in front of them are completed in a timely, accurate manner.
They’re hard-nosed.
I’m always impressed at the fine line they walk between politeness and prowess. Whether it’s a billing issue, or a collections call, an anxious sales rep, or another potentially-tense encounter, these employees produce positive results with professionalism and grace. Trust me, that’s a special, unique skill.
They’re outside-the-box thinkers.
When we deal with large, complex accounts (like our hospitals), there are special needs and requests that inevitably arise. Often, these are "asks" that our systems may not currently have the ability to accommodate. However, our people don’t say “no, we can’t do that.” They look at it and ask, “How CAN we do that?” Because of their creative, outside-the-box thinking, we shine with our clients.
In conclusion, we couldn’t operate our business reliably without our administrative departments. We couldn’t Create Raving Fans without their expertise. We celebrate their skills and thank them for their professionalism, their patience, and their prowess. They are true Pillars of Support here at Datamax.
The Best is Yet to Be.
