Letter on the Third — July 2025
Dear Datamax Family,
There’s a certain level of comfort in walking into a place where you feel seen, heard, and valued. The lights are on and the door’s already open. At Datamax, we don’t just talk about being open. We live it by inviting honest feedback, bold ideas and always taking the best interests of the company at heart. “Always Open:” It’s a mindset we share collectively. That’s our culture.
Opening Doors of Collaboration.
Back in my early days at Datamax, I spent many hours talking shop with our VP of Sales in St. Louis, Dick Collier. No topic was off-limits, and no hour was too late for a good conversation and solid collaboration. We challenged each other, supported each other, and grew together. Those open, unfiltered discussions I believe helped shape how I lead today. They taught me that real collaboration only happens when you remove walls and make space for trust and shared purpose.
Opening Doors of Comfort.
How can you lead if you don’t know who you’re leading? That means showing up, not just with answers, but with curiosity. People must feel comfortable walking into my office, or dialing me on the phone, knowing they’ll be met with respect and a willingness to listen. Building that kind of comfort doesn’t happen overnight, but it does happen when we show up as people first, titles second.
Opening Doors of Commitment.
Feedback only matters when we act on it. Be it healthcare changes or product line additions, employee feedback plays an active role in our decision making. The one caveat: we stay committed to doing what’s best for the whole organization. Sometimes that means making hard decisions. Other times, it means being patient. But every time, it means being thoughtful and open.
Opening Doors of Change.
This month, we honor the retirement of Saint Louis Controller Sheryl Scott: A steady presence and an impactful voice in steering our financial direction for 30 + years. She approached her work with both diligence and heart, and her best intentions were always for the good of the team. As she embarks on the wide-open road ahead, we thank her for everything she poured into this organization and wish her all the best moving forward.
Let’s keep the doors open. Not just the ones on hinges, but the ones that lead to growth, understanding, and a stronger Datamax for everyone. That’s our culture.
The Best is Yet to Be.
Your Raving Fan,
