Letter on the Third — October 2021

Dear Datamax Family,

You don’t have to travel far at all into our Little Blue Book to understand that “the execution of a culture, of course, comes down to people.”

Those are the exact words from friend and longtime Datamax Consultant Mike Riordan on page 1 of the book. He goes on to write,

"The team at Datamax executes their Culture brilliantly. These people are Real People. They care about their customers and equally as important, they care about each other. To be a Datamax team member means that you Show Up every day excited to Create Raving Fans and be a Raving Fan for your fellow team members. A team member grabs their Lunch Pail and goes to work every day.”

People to People. That’s how Raving Fans are Created.

So who are the Datamax people? How do they Create Raving Fans?

In the book “Raving Fans” by Ken Blanchard (very much an inspiration for our mission statement here), the third pillar in the “Raving Fans” foundation is, “Deliver the Vision Plus One Percent.” Because of the hiring processes we have in place here like “Attitude, Skills, and Knowledge” and “Success by Selection,” I believe we are able to put the right person, in the right job, with the right relationship. When that happens, and our people are enthusiastic about their workday, they are able to not only do their job and do it well but stand ready to deliver what you might call that extra 1 percent – that initiative or extra step that maybe the customer wasn’t expecting.

In this issue, you’ll read about a few of our own employees who exhibit qualities that matter when dealing people to people. People who never stop learning. People who show up and execute every day. People who are pumped. People who care about their coworkers as much as their customers.

How do we deal ‘People to People?’

That question gets answered comprehensively within our 16 Datamax Operating Principles. I invite you to revisit those. When you’re trying to Create a Raving Fan, if you’re not prioritizing people, what are you prioritizing? I believe you have to be in the trenches. You have to put yourself in that person’s position and ask, “How you would want to be taken care of?” In other words …. What would it take for YOU to be a Raving Fan?

I say it often, but here at Datamax Culture Trumps Everything. The execution of that culture, of course, comes down to people. People just like you.

The Best is Yet to Be.
