Letter on the Third — September, 2018

Dear Datamax Family,

Legendary coach John Wooden said, “It is amazing how much more can be accomplished if no one cares who receives the credit.”

At Datamax, we share the credit: From the warm welcome of our greeter at the front door, to the warehouse personnel in the back, loading up equipment.  As I’ve said many times before, culture trumps everything here. Our culture is one that succeeds together, and we celebrate wins together. On our team, every player is valuable, and just as our “Little Blue Book” clearly states:

“Every job is important.”

In Little Rock, we had perhaps our best month ever sales-wise in August.  It took a lot of hustle from everyone inside the organization. Just to give you an idea, we had to rent another truck to make sure we could get all the necessary deliveries done in a timely manner. I’m proud of everyone involved with this extraordinary performance in August.  Whether you were driving a truck, in the warehouse, out selling, servicing equipment or working in administration, you played a big role in getting the job done.

Just like any other team, we’re at our best when we’re cheering each other on. If you had a great month selling, or you did an outstanding job in collections, we should be praising these things publicly. Doing so assures every one of us that what we are doing is a crucial piece to the overall Raving Results we deliver. Praise is energizing. We perform better when we feel valued.

Datamax Arkansas was recently awarded the Konica Minolta Pro-Tech award for the third consecutive year. Additionally, both Little Rock (three years) and Dallas (11 years) have also earned Canon ATSP Certification in consecutive years. It’s something I’m very proud of, as there’s no other dealerships around that are repeating that level of success. This service recognition, which demonstrates excellence in both technical expertise and top-tier client support, took hundreds of training hours to complete, and I’m very proud of our people to take this on and to make it happen. More than anything else, an award like this shows that our employees really care.

Finally, the renovation process in East Texas has made big strides in the last month (as you can see in this month’s Rave Review here). This demonstrates to all employees that we are willing to invest into the company long term and provide home fields that I believe we can all take a lot of pride in, as we arrive to work every morning.

All teams face obstacles. Our biggest challenge moving forward, as we continue to grow as a company, will be to communicate our culture with new employees.  We must make sure that the cultural fabric we’ve threaded together continues to remain durable, and that it shapes the way we tackle our job every single day.

I have no doubt that we will do just that, because culture always trumps everything at Datamax. The Best is Yet to Be.

Your Raving Fan,
