Canon's Unified Firmware Platform: Keeping Pace With Security Updates

Canon's Unified Firmware Platform from Datamax

Canon’s Unified Firmware Platform (UFP) allows Canon imageRUNNER ADVANCE models to be updated with cutting-edge features, new functionality, and enhanced security measures on an ongoing basis.

For a runner, the challenge of keeping a steady, fast pace only grows stronger the longer the race goes on.

Hackers and cyberattacks are evolving faster than ever before. In response, necessary security updates often move at a sprinter’s pace, with no finish line to speak of. Meanwhile, your documents, your networks, and your devices need to stay "fresh" to protect against security threats … and obsolescence.

In regards to your MFP/copier, how do you keep pace with security challenges, without simply upgrading to a new model?

Canon’s Unified Firmware Platform (UFP) allows Canon imageRUNNER ADVANCE models to be updated with cutting-edge features, new functionality, and enhanced security measures on an ongoing basis, ensuring that each device is not only capable … but also consistent with one another.

Keeping Pace: Examples of Enhanced Security Measures with Canon MFP Devices:

1. McAfee Embedded Control.

McAfee Embedded Control (available with UFP v3.9 and beyond) helps block the execution of unauthorized applications like malware through intelligent whitelisting and prevent tampering of existing firmware and applications.

2. FTPS Support.

The latest version of UFP Enables use of encrypted FTPS communication protocols for enhanced security.

3. TLS 1.3 Support.

Canon is among the first in the industry to support this encryption protocol, providing hardened security and improved network communication performance.

4.  Verify System Startup.

This identifies tampering of boot code, OS/firmware, and MEAP applications.

5. SIEM Integration.

This feature integrates with third party Security Information and Event Management systems to alert network administrators of potential threats.

In short, the UFP ...

  • Provides a common source code for firmware development for models within the third generation imageRUNNER ADVANCE and imageRUNNER ADVANCED DX families.
  • Helps to continue to increase the value proposition of the device by contributing to continuous feature improvement.
  • Allows for version upgrades, including additional functionality, to existing models in a same generation on a regular basis.

All third generation imageRUNNER ADVANCE models (1st , 2nd, 3rd editions and DX models) can be updated to Unified Firmware Platform v.3.10 to utilize the new v3.10 features at no additional cost
